Animation & Motion Design
I love bringing characters or visual concepts to life through traditional 2D animation techniques
or by using contemporary motion graphics software.
Every online platform requires more and more animated content to grab a visitor’s attention.
Whether it’s an advertisement or a livestream transition, animation saturates online media.
Crafting this content in a way that infuses personality and color while
staying true to a project’s core identity is a creative challenge that I relish.
Iterate & Refine
Using simple shapes or concepts as a launchpad to ideas is one of my favorite processes. Repetition of one shape led to this colorful petal-like animation.
Personality is Key
Simple loops provide a great framework for character study. How much personality can be infused into a two second loop? I love combining motion design with painterly textures to create a more organic mood.
Stay Engaged
Cute, quirky characters carry loads of appeal. This short animation was made as an alert for a Twitch stream to reward new followers for their engagement.
Identity in Motion
Every business needs logo. How better to catch the eye than through motion?
Simple concepts take on new life through appealing, cartoony animation in this pair of logo concepts.
Extra Dimension
Sometimes a logo needs a little more dimensionality. That’s when you bring in the 3D animation tools. This animated FIT logo was made for a student logo contest using the Maya MASH API, winning second place. FIT’s logo is extremely simple, so it was fun to explore different ways to make it more dynamic.
Beauty in Abstraction
Finding joy in abstract animation is a main draw for me to Motion Graphics.
Creating impossible shapes and permutating cyclical designs leads the eye on a directional journey.
Lighting and Compositing
Light and shadow ground us in three dimensional space.
To simulate both, this car model was composited into a photo
and ran through multiple render passes in Maya.
We Go Together Like
Salt and Pepper
A modern media project involves bouncing between multiple programs in the production pipeline. This scene was modeled and animated in Maya and brought into After Effects to add particles and other stylistic effects.
